Obituary of Ron Beasom

Ronald “Ron” Lightner Beasom, age 92, went to be with his Savior on Monday, April 22, 2024, after a short illness. He was born to the late Frederick and Florence Beasom, a carpenter and an elementary school teacher, respectfully, in Newport, PA, on July 23, 1931. After graduating high school, he pursued his passion for art and teaching at Penn State University, earning a bachelor’s degree and playing the trumpet in the Blue Band. He then served as a pilot in the United States Air Force/Strategic Air Command. After completing his military service, he returned to Penn State to earn a master’s degree, where he met his beloved wife, Nancy Ann Hibbs. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage until her death in 2020. Ron began his professional teaching career at Boiling Springs High School in Boiling Springs, PA. After marrying, he moved and taught art at Indian Lane Junior High and Penncrest Senior High School in Media, PA, until his retirement. He was a respected head football coach at the junior high and his students fondly remember him for helping them transform the school lobby and hallways into a themed winter wonderland every Christmas. He also taught pottery classes for Penn State Extension (Media campus) for many years. Upon retirement, Ron started his own pottery business where he sold his handmade pottery at art shows in the Northeast and Florida. In 1997, Ron and Nancy moved to Punta Gorda where they built their dream home on the Peace River. Not long afterwards, they secured a job on Princess Cruise Lines teaching pottery classes and traveling the world for 6 years. Ron will be remembered as a kind and multi-talented man who loved God, family, and country. He also loved to laugh. Ha fancied wearing Hawaiian shirts, shorts, white crew socks and loafers. He was fiercely patriotic, enjoyed all kinds of food, was a lifelong avid Penn State football fan, and very supportive and proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his three children, Kim Schwab (Terry), Jeff Beasom (Diane), Bryn Fay (Russell), his nine grandchildren, Zachary Schwab (Hannah), Ethan Schwab (Bethany), Savannah Self (Zadok), Abbey Eddington (Samuel), Tyler Beasom, Jessica Beasom, Matthew Fay, Brittany Quezon (Chris), Mark Fay and his 5 great grandchildren, William Schwab, Everly Schwab, Verity Self, Emilia Schwab, and Kailey Quezon.
